"Get a Slice of How the Sistas Deal with Life"
It's the summer of 1977 and it's life as usual for the women of the Black Southern neighborhood of Moon River. They spend their days caring for their families and talking about the world as well as each other. Four of Moon River's most notable women; Beautiful Worthy, Lena Mitchell, Delores Taylor, and Nola Jane Lavender, are all doing some serious living, loving, and learning; accepting the ups and downs that each day brings until revelations force them to look at their lives in a different light. Chandra Kamaria's original stage play is engaging and complicated. With its bold language and witty humor, it asks the question just how long can a sista go on before she realizes something is wrong and in need of fixing? And, once she knows, where does she start? Let Beautiful, Lena, Delores, and Nola show you the way...in their own way!
Meet the Women of Moon River
Beautiful Worthy

Beautiful Worthy is the straight from the hip, enterprising woman of Moon River. With a thriving business, Beautiful spends her days tending to her garden and crafting homemade remedies that will cure whatever ails the residents of the neighborhood. Beautiful has a sweet tooth for men, allowing them to enjoy the pleasure of her company until she tires of them. She dispenses counsel to her customers, but especially to her friends, while managing to keep her own issues under wraps until she is confronted by her mother.
Lena Mitchell

Lena Mitchell is one of the older women in the Moon River community. Married with three children, she takes care of home as well as manage many responsibilities at her local church. A traditionalist by upbringing, Lena intends to instill the same values, not only on her family, but for everyone that interacts with her in the neighborhood, much to their dismay. Lena can be rather intrusive as she attempts to be the moral conscience among the women. Meanwhile, her own household is slowly falling apart due to the infidelity of her husband, however, Lena is not gonna give up without a fight.
Nola Jane Lavender

A newcomer to Moon River, Nola Jane was born in the South but left in her teens to pursue a career in music. After juggling a rollercoaster relationship, a hectic touring schedule, and two children, Nola finally has all she wants in her current lover, Paul Hendricks. Desiring a more stable life for herself and her kids, she and Paul move to Moon River with plans of opening a jazz club in the area. Meanwhile, she continues to nurture strong feelings for the father of her children. In addition, Paul is beginning to put pressure on her to make a decision about what she wants most.
Delores Taylor

At first impression, Delores seems like a woman with a massive chip on her shoulder; secretive and attitudinal. However, that's not the case. Dealing with a painful experience from her past, Delores is unable to come to terms with her feelings. Being consumed with a pending divorce and financial woes, her relationship with her sixteen year old daughter, Candace, is suffering just as the young girl is trying to understand what it means to be a woman. Through an unexpected visit, Delores is forced to bear her soul and come face-to-face with the pain that's been plaguing here since she moved to Moon River in her late teens.
